Super-DMCA issue stays hot

I’ve been pleased to see that people have continued to keep the super-DMCA story alive.  Slashdot has a thread on the PhD thesis that was moved abroad to the Netherlands to avoid potential DMCA liability (for Massachusetts, with more colleges per square than Irish pubs — well, not quite, but still — such transfers could be quite costly with a super-DMCA around).  Dave Winer wrote it up this morning, linking to a Boston Globe story that ran today.  J.D. Lasica is on the case.  And the EFF, which has been helping lead the charge on the opposition to the super-DMCAs nationwide, has come out — surprise, surprise — against the state proposals.  Fred von Lohmann’s write-up is a particularly useful one, with lots of strong arguments against the proposals.  Meanwhile, Professor Ed Felten’s Freedom to Tinker site continues to provide the story in comprehensive fashion.

I’m thinking I’ll write some notes to my State Representative, Patricia Jehlen, and to State Senator Jarrett Barrios, who just introduced some new spam legislation in Massachusetts (requiring Prof. Lessig’s [ADV] tag — though of course at the state and not federal level).  We should keep the pressure up on the people who could make or break this silly super-DMCA bill in each and every state.
